TL;DR
  • Built for LMS scale, not sales roleplay: Absorb LMS is a mature enterprise learning management system built for onboarding, compliance, and course commerce at scale, not for AI sales roleplay or coaching.
  • Roleplay is "Coming Soon," not live: the 2026 Absorb Aura AI agent layer names "role plays, simulations" as a planned modality, but Absorb's own product page labels it "Coming Soon," not something you can buy or try today.
  • Honest verdict: if you're evaluating Absorb for sales-conversation practice, you're evaluating the wrong tool; if you need compliance tracking, certifications, and a course catalog, it's a real contender.

What Is Absorb LMS?

Absorb LMS is a cloud-based learning management system sold by Absorb Software, a company owned by private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe since 2021. It handles the core jobs a corporate LMS is supposed to handle: employee onboarding, compliance tracking, certification management, and course delivery to internal teams, customers, and partners.

Absorb claims more than 3,500 customer organizations and 37 million learners worldwide, which puts it firmly in the enterprise-scale tier of the LMS market.

The bigger story in 2026 is the rebrand. The company's entire domain, absorblms.com, now 301-redirects to absorbai.com, a structural signal that Absorb wants to be seen as an "AI-native" or "agentic" learning platform, not just a traditional LMS.

That repositioning is anchored by Absorb Aura, a five-agent AI layer the company launched on May 19, 2026.

Absorb also acquired mentorship-platform company Together in January 2025, adding human mentor-matching to its product line.

Strip away the branding and the core product is still what it's always been: a system for delivering, tracking, and reporting on training content. That's a different job than an AI sales roleplay platform does, and it's worth being clear about that distinction before you get into a pricing conversation.

Absorb LMS Pricing

Absorb does not publish pricing anywhere on its site. The get-pricing page is a lead-gen form that asks for your learner count (bands run from 1-50 up to 25,000+) before routing you to a sales rep.

There's no free tier. A demo or trial is available on request, but you won't see a number until you talk to sales.

What you'll findDetail
Public pricing pageNone. Form-gated by learner count.
Free planNone
Free trialAvailable on request, not self-serve
Third-party cost estimatesAround $14,500/year at the small end, scaling into tens of thousands annually as learner count and add-on modules grow (per SaaSWorthy, educate-me.co, and peoplemanagingpeople.com; not confirmed by Absorb)
Add-on cost complaintsA Capterra reviewer specifically called the Data Analytics add-on "expensive"

Reviewers bring this up unprompted. One summary of reviewer complaints puts it bluntly: "the opaque pricing is frustrating, and ultimately expensive."

Separate marketplace data (via Vendr and Spendhound, also unconfirmed by Absorb) estimates SMB-tier contracts averaging around $34,000 a year and enterprise-tier contracts around $82,000 a year, with renewal escalators commonly cited at 3 to 7% annually.

If you want a straight answer on cost before a sales call, you won't get one from Absorb directly. Budget for a real procurement cycle, not a self-serve signup.

Outdoo AI works differently here: Outdoo AI pricing is usage-based, tied to training activity rather than a flat annual contract, so a team can size the cost before a sales call instead of negotiating one blind.

Absorb LMS Features

Absorb's core is course delivery, compliance, and reporting, wrapped in a growing set of AI modules layered on top.

The traditional LMS layer covers what you'd expect: course authoring and hosting, certification tracking, compliance workflows, gamification, Salesforce and HR-system integrations, and multi-tenant course commerce for selling training to external customers and partners.

Absorb Skills is the AI-driven upskilling layer, with a library of more than 20,000 courses.

Absorb Aura, launched May 19, 2026, is the new five-agent AI system:

  • The Learner Agent answers learner questions conversationally, inside the app, Teams, or a Chrome extension.
  • The Discovery Agent recommends next-best learning actions.
  • The Q&A Agent sources and cites answers to policy or content questions.
  • Aura Admin Assist automates admin tasks and generates reports from natural-language queries.
  • Aura Create is generative course authoring, which Absorb claims runs up to 10x faster than manual course building.

Absorb disclosed real beta metrics for these agents: 95% useful responses, 94% single-response resolution, 100% compliant safety responses, and 40 to 60% ticket deflection.

Those numbers are specific and worth taking at face value. But notice what they're measuring: Q&A and admin automation. None of them relate to roleplay or sales-conversation practice.

That's the important gap. The Aura press release names "role plays, simulations" as one of seven planned modalities. Absorb's own Aura product page is more specific, and more honest, about where it actually stands: "AI-powered roleplay — Practice real conversations before they happen — (Coming Soon)."

The accompanying copy promises reps can "roleplay the moment first, in scenarios built from your own training content, then get feedback on what worked and what to try differently." "Coming Soon" is the operative phrase, and "your own training content" means static course material, not a team's real calls or CRM data.

There's no scoring rubric, no scorecard, no persona builder, no mention of voice or video roleplay, and no beta metric attached to roleplay specifically, despite Absorb disclosing metrics for every other Aura agent. A second "Coming Soon" feature on the same page, an MCP connector for querying Aura from ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot, isn't live yet either.

Absorb's own sales-training and sales-teams solution pages don't mention roleplay, simulation, or scoring at all. They're standard LMS sales pitches: course delivery, CRM integration, certification tracking, and AI-recommended learning paths for content, not practice.

Separately, the mentoring capability from the Together acquisition is a program-management and matching tool for human mentors, not an AI-scored practice loop.

What Users Say

Absorb's reviews reflect a company that's good at the LMS fundamentals and mixed on flexibility and support.

"Easy to Use as an Admin, with Powerful Features to Grow Into," from Jennifer Z, Sr. Director of Learning & Development, Non-Profit, Capterra

"It integrates flawlessly with our existing HR ecosystem, automating user management," from Sophia B, IT Manager, Consumer Services, Capterra

On the critical side, one Capterra reviewer flagged rigidity: "There are some limitations with some of the functionality...certain things are not adjustable for an individual because they are set at the curriculum level." A G2 reviewer summary raised support responsiveness: "Customer support could be more responsive, and some integrations might fall short compared to competitors."

Worth noting for anyone evaluating the roleplay angle: across hundreds of G2 and Capterra reviews, not one mentions roleplay, conversation practice, or call scoring. Every AI-related comment is about Aura's admin assistance or Absorb Create's course authoring, never conversational coaching.

Absorb also picked up a Forrester Wave Leader recognition for LMS/Experience Platforms in Q4 2025 and a set of G2 Summer 2025 badges, including #1 Enterprise Relationship Index for Corporate LMS. Those are real third-party signals of a solid, well-run LMS business, not evidence of a roleplay product.

Where Absorb LMS Falls Short

If you're shopping specifically for AI sales roleplay or coaching, Absorb doesn't have a real product here. There's no dedicated roleplay tool, no conversational buyer bot, no scoring rubric, no persona or scenario builder, and no CRM or workflow simulation.

The roleplay capability itself is explicitly labeled "Coming Soon" on Absorb's own product page, not shipped, not reviewed, and with no public ship date. There's no demo video, no case study, and no metric attached to it, despite Absorb publishing beta metrics for every other Aura agent.

There's also no evidence Absorb grounds any practice experience in a customer's own calls, transcripts, or playbooks, which is the entire premise of a real coaching platform. And pricing opacity is a recurring friction point reviewers raise unprompted, not just a minor quibble.

If your evaluation criteria include "can reps rehearse a live objection-handling scenario and get scored against our own playbook," Absorb has nothing to show you today. This is a course-delivery and compliance system with an AI layer bolted on top of it, not a coaching product. Where Absorb LMS Genuinely Wins

Give Absorb its due. As an enterprise LMS, it's a real, mature product.

The scale numbers (3,500+ organizations, 37 million learners) aren't small, and the review base backs up the core use case: reviewers consistently praise ease of admin use and HR-system integration. The compliance and certification tracking is built for exactly the kind of regulated, audit-heavy training programs that large organizations need.

The course library through Absorb Skills is large, and the multi-tenant course commerce model works well for companies selling training to external customers or partners.

The recent AI investment is also real, not just marketing. The disclosed beta metrics for the Q&A and admin agents are specific numbers, not vague claims, and the Forrester and G2 recognition reflects genuine market standing.

If your actual need is "one LMS for onboarding, compliance, and course commerce across a large organization," Absorb is a legitimate option for L&D teams running that program. That's just a different job than what Outdoo AI does.

How Outdoo AI Compares

Absorb and Outdoo AI aren't really competing for the same budget line. Absorb is a system of record for training content. Outdoo AI is an AI roleplay and training platform built specifically for sales teams to practice conversations and get scored on them.

The clearest difference is grounding. Outdoo AI builds roleplay agents and scorecards directly from a team's own calls, transcripts, playbooks, and battlecards, so reps practice against real scenarios and get graded against their own company's standard, not a generic vendor rubric. Absorb's own description of its "Coming Soon" roleplay feature ties it to a team's uploaded course content instead, not real calls or CRM data.

Outdoo AI also runs one scorecard across both roleplay practice and live calls, so leaders can prove AI coaching moves actual revenue metrics, not just completion rates.

And Outdoo AI's workflow simulation extends practice past the conversation itself, scoring the post-call CRM logging and process work in the same session, something no LMS or roleplay tool in this category does.

The gap shows up twice on the same Aura product page. Absorb's planned connector for ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot carries the same "in development" status as its roleplay feature. Outdoo AI already ships a comparable MCP server integration with 39 tools live today, so "shipped vs. roadmapped" isn't limited to roleplay alone.

If your organization already runs Absorb for onboarding and compliance, the right question isn't "which one do we replace." It's "how does Outdoo AI plug in on top."

Outdoo AI exports completions and scores via SCORM and xAPI, syncing coaching data directly into your existing Absorb LMS integration. That's a genuinely different conversation than a head-to-head bakeoff, and it's the honest one to have if Absorb is already your system of record.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Absorb LMS used for?

Employee onboarding, compliance training, certification tracking, and course delivery to internal teams, customers, and partners. It's an enterprise LMS, not a dedicated sales-training or roleplay tool.

Does Absorb LMS have AI roleplay for sales training?

Not yet. Absorb's own Aura product page lists "AI-powered roleplay" as "Coming Soon," with no scoring system, persona builder, or ship date published anywhere. Outdoo AI's AI roleplay platform is shipped and live today.

Is Absorb LMS pricing public?

No. Absorb gates pricing behind a lead-gen form segmented by learner count. Third-party estimates put small-team costs around $14,500 a year, scaling into the tens of thousands as learner count and add-ons grow.

Can Outdoo AI work alongside Absorb LMS instead of replacing it?

Yes. Outdoo AI supports SCORM and xAPI export, so roleplay and coaching completions sync into the Absorb LMS instance you already run rather than requiring a separate system.

What third-party recognition has Absorb LMS received?

Absorb picked up a Forrester Wave Leader recognition for LMS/Experience Platforms in Q4 2025 and a set of G2 Summer 2025 badges, including #1 Enterprise Relationship Index for Corporate LMS. Those are signals of a solid, well-run LMS business, not evidence of a roleplay product.
